Literacy and Numeracy Week / Book Week 2009
Minaret College celebrated the National Literacy and Numeracy Week / Book Week 2009 from 31st August to 6th September 2009. This year’s theme was “Getting the Basics Right.” The students in Years Prep to 6 participated very enthusiastically in a wide range of fun-filled activities as mentioned below: Numeracy Games Day with Buddies – 31st August 2009 Poetry / Writing Competition on “Ramadan” Maths and Spelling Challenge 2009: - Curriculum Mathletics - 1st September - Spellodrome - 2nd September - Live Mathletics - 3rd September Book Week Activities – 2nd September Theme -Book Safari National Reading Day Activities with Buddies – 4th September Theme - A Story Sharing Safari Reach for the Stars 2009-students were engaged in a nationwide collaboration to share and explore data about their first names Making Digital Stories The students celebrated their participation, learning and success by gathering in the Multipurpose Hall for an Awards Assembly on 11th September 2009. Prizes and special certificates were handed out to the winners of the Numeracy Games, Best Poetry / Writing and the Book Week Competitions. This was followed by an announcement of the Top 10 winners of the Australian Maths & Spelling Challenge 2009 as seen in the Hall of Fame: Medals & Certificates to be presented in Term 4, InshaAllah (upon receipt from the sponsors). The teachers were also recognized for their valuable contributions in making this week’s activities very successful. The Assembly concluded by watching the Digital Story highlighting all the events and activities that the students were involved in all through this special week, displaying excellence in Literacy and Numeracy.
